Ingredients:
- Small onions - 1/2 cup
- Garlic - 2 cloves
- Tomatoes - 2 plum tomatoes
- Chilli powder - 1 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Fennel seeds - 1/4 tsp
- Oil - 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Urad dal - 3/4 tsp
- Curry leaves - 6-8 leaves
- Salt to taste
Method
- Heat oil add mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves one by one.
- Allow to splutter and the dal to turn golden brown.
- Now, add in the small onions and fry until slightly softened.
- Add the garlic and fry for 1 mts.
- Add the tomatoes and fry untill it mashed then add chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt.
- Add about 1/2 cup of water, cover and let cook on medium low until slightly thickened.
- The raw tomato smell should have gone and the onions should be fully cooked.
- Serve with idlly or dosai
