Onion and Tomatoe Gravy


Ingredients:
  • Small onions - 1/2 cup
  • Garlic - 2 cloves
  • Tomatoes - 2 plum tomatoes
  • Chilli powder - 1 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Fennel seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal - 3/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 6-8 leaves
  • Salt to taste

Method
  • Heat oil add mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves one by one.
  • Allow to splutter and the dal to turn golden brown.
  • Now, add in the small onions and fry until slightly softened.
  • Add the garlic and fry for 1 mts.
  • Add the tomatoes and fry untill it mashed then add chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt.
  • Add about 1/2 cup of water, cover and let cook on medium low until slightly thickened.
  • The raw tomato smell should have gone and the onions should be fully cooked.
  • Serve with idlly or dosai
